VIETNAMESE GOODS AND TOURISM WEEK IN THAILAND 2018 –
A BRIDGE FOR VIETNAM ENTERPRISES TO PENETRATE INTO THAILAND DISTRIBUTION NETWORK
(Bangkok, 22/08/2018) – “Vietnamese Goods and Tourism Week in Thailand 2018″, organized by the Ministry of Industry and Trade of Vietnam and Central Group, with the cooperation of the Vietnam National Administration of Tourism officially opened on August 22, 2018 and lasts until the end of August 26, 2018, at Central World Plaza – one of the largest lifestyle shopping destinations in Bangkok, Thailand. The opening ceremony had the presence of Deputy Minister of Industry and Trade Do Thang Hai and Minister of Commerce of Thailand Sontirat Sontijirawong.
This is the third consecutive year the event taken place in Bangkok, Thailand. In 2016 and 2017, the program “Vietnamese Goods Week in Thailand” focused on promoting goods of Vietnamese enterprises. This year, there are new features, more activities to promote the Vietnamese tourism with the cooperation of Vietnam National Administration of Tourism.
On behalf of Vietnam Minister of Industry and Trade, Mr. Do Thang Hai, Deputy Minisster said: “The Vietnamese Goods and Tourism week in Thailand 2018″ is a project among the framework of “Promote Vietnamese enterprises to directly participate in foreign countries’ distribution networks, period to 2020″ which was approved by the Prime Minister in Decision No. 1513 / QD-TTG dated 3 September 2015. For Vietnamese goods to be accessed and exported into distribution network of Central Group, Central Group Vietnam has cooperated with Ministry of Industry and Trade in conducting market research, selecting enterprises, organizing practical training courses to improve the capacity and quality of goods and support the development of products for each market with the objective of exporting them into modern distribution channels.

For trade in particular, the two countries have long exchanged goods and services, with trade volumes increasing every year. The Thai private sector has also been continually ready to invest in Vietnam’s trade, such as Central Group’s investment in various Vietnamese businesses, and importation of Vietnamese products for sale in Thailand. This has enabled Thais to get to know Vietnam better, causing increasing circulation between the two countries. The government has now set a target that the volume of Thai-Viet trade should top US$2 billion by 2020.
Besides this, the two countries have mutually promoted tourism, with a rising number of Thai tourists favoring Vietnam because of the country’s natural beauty, distinctive culture and unique cuisine, which Thais find delicious. At the beginning of this year, the number of Thai tourists visiting Vietnam rose by 9.2 percent on the same period last year. The Vietnamese government’s vision of increasing visitor arrivals to 17-20 million by 2020 is now bearing fruit, while not less than 1 million Vietnamese tourists come to Thailand every year, a number also increasing annually. These factors have driven the economies of both countries to create rapid growth. This Vietnamese Goods and Tourism Week in Thailand 2018 is thus a portent to extend trade and tourism relations between the two countries to be stronger than ever.

At the “Vietnamese Goods and Tourism Week 2018″, nearly 50 Vietnamese businesses register to exhibit goods at 50 booths, as well as connect directly with the Central Group’s procurement department in Thailand. In particular, Vietnamese enterprises focus on displaying, introducing products, goods, tourism services at 3 main lobbies with total floor space used 800 msq of Central World Plaza. Particularly, those items with high export potential such as processed food from natural fruits, coffee, instant noodles, fashion clothes, silk scarves … to the items bearing bold identity, refinement of the regions of Vietnam such as dong, enoki mushrooms, 3D cards, handicrafts (list attached with Press release); Vietnamese brands have achieved great successes in Thai market such as Vinamilk, Da Lat Hasfarm flowers, Sabeco beer, Dien Quang bulbs … also participated in this special occasion.
In particular, within the framework of the “Vietnamese Goods and Tourism Week in Thailand 2018″, the Ministry of Industry and Trade in collaboration with the Central Group organized the Trade Connection Conference to help Vietnamese enterprises to directly meet the Purchasing Department of the Central Group’s retail system. Through this workshop, Vietnamese enterprises and manufacturers will have the opportunity to introduce products, learn new requirements and standards on quality, design and exchange business methods with representatives from Central Group Thailand.
In addition, throughout the event there are exciting shows: Ao dai fashion show, performed by Vietnamese models (in which the special appearance of Ms. Huyen My – first runner-up of Miss Vietnam 2014) and Thai models; cooking show with typical dishes of Vietnamese cuisine susch as pho, banh mi; ca phe. Everyday, in week, there will be a Coffee show with demonstration of Vietnamese coffee mix to promote “Vietnamese coffee ice” to the world.
New things at Vietnamese Goods and Tourism Week in Thailand 2018
Right from the start, the vision and commitment of Big C and Central Group Vietnam is “Contributing to the prosperity of Vietnam and enhancing the quality of Vietnamese life”. With the desire to contribute more to Vietnam (not only in promoting goods and tourism), on the occasion of “Vietnamese Goods and Tourism Week in Thailand 2018″, representatives of Central Group Vietnam will lead the Hanoi Promotion Agency and Hanoi Handicraft and Trade Association to Chiang Mai (Thailand). The purpose of this trip is to exchange experience with the Northern Handicraft Manufacturers and Exporters Association (NOHMEX) in developing and promoting successful handicraft products. Since then, applying good Thai ideas in producing and promoting handicrafts to domestic and international tourists in Vietnam, as well as developing this product in the retail system of Central Group in Viet Nam.
Tourism – a new highlight of the 2018 program
Together with the booths in the Commodity Fair, the Tourism Fair gathers many famous tour operators together, such as Vietjet, Air Asia, Centara Hotels & Resorts, Accor, Asia Holidays by Phoenix Vogage, ASIANA travel. … This is an good opportunity for tourism and travel businesses in Vietnam to have direct contact with Thai tourists and to understand their needs, as well as to introduce attractive destinations of Vietnam.
Here, the participating businesses also launched many special promotions for visitors such as 0 VND airfare, discount tours, gift vouchers for relaxation as well as tickets for the traditional art shows in Vietnam.
The image of Vietnam – the country, people are also clearly portrayed through traditional art performances, culinary art shows, fashion that takes place every day during the exhibition as well as through the photo exhibition displayed at Central Court. Attending the program, Thai visitors will discover Viet Nam from a very close distance, with many similarities in culture but also very unique and charming. The success of the tourism fair in Vietnam Week 2018 partly contributed to stimulating tourism, promoting the image of Vietnam to a country that is well-known in tourism.
Awake the export potential of Vietnam’s goods to Thailand after the event
In order to enter the Thai market, Vietnamese goods still need to improve restrictions on preservation, marketing, price competition, etc. It is a long journey to achieve synchronization of both the quantity and quality of export products. In this context, the Vietnam Goods and Tourism Week in Thailand in this third organization with the cooperation of the Central Group has gradually contributed to creating practical bridges to help Vietnam’s enterprises to approach and promote export potential through the Thai market easily.
